This week's thing for the week will be picture free, as I don't want to ruin mum's surprise, but there are pictures of what I have made at least.
To start with there is a Tando Creative printer tray. I ordered a ton of these, but when I got them they were a bit smaller than I thought they would be (my fault) so I was a bit stumped as to what to do with them. Then I had an idea the other day that I wanted to have a meditative, almost zen-like piece. I painted the tray black, and used a piece of cardstock from the wild at heart range. I used lindy's embossing powder in sheba silver on some cogs and added a metal bird from my stash. Finally I used the Tim Holtz tiny tattered flowers thinlit die to cut loads of flowers, and a branch, which I coloured with distress inks. Finally I inked and added a quote. The combination of grey and purple is really peaceful.
I also made a Halloween themed charm bracelet. I did have a different word band in mind for it, but it snapped so I had to go with this one. I added a black rose, a spider, a bottle with some beads in and a key attached, and finally a bezel piece which is the word fear from an old tattered dictionary I have.
This is the progress on the tiger in the heavens stitch. The one advantage of my new job is that I never do a twelve hour shift anymore, which means that I can do a little bit of stitching, crafting or writing every day.

So this week was about teaching something that I know or can do to someone else. Not an easy thing I found. Writing is not something you can really teach, neither is cross stitching, and if I am perfectly honest most of the people I have either given or shown my craft pieces to feign interest or can't even stretch to that. I think that's why my crafting has slowed; the lack of interest from others means that my negative voice becomes louder, as does my apathetic one. (I did come top 3 again in the That's crafty challenge for my rust piece a couple of weeks ago, so I guess my crafting isn't all that bad)
That's changed a little recently. My mum decided that she wanted to make some things to give as Christmas presents to some people, and came to me for help, as she had seen me make similar things to what she wanted to give. (See me being all cryptic here, on the off chance someone involved reads the blog) So this week has been me teaching how various paints, gessos, waxes and ephemera go together. It's been fun. Mum is a great seamstress, and I have always felt like I would forever be learning off of her, so it was nice to teach her something, and the finished products (half finished for some of them - these things take time!) are looking good.
Till next time,
Ems
