Through the porthole

I got the idea to do a shaker piece this week, and kinda went with it! I started off by getting a grungeboard square base, before cutting out some woodgrain kraft resist paper to match. I sprayed this with Lindy's sprays, then cut it into strips before attaching it to the base. I then cut out a circle from thick card, and another matching circle with a small circle in the centre. I glued button onto this ring, added sand texture paste and coated it in gesso before using rust paste. I then cut out a circle from normal card, coloured it with distress ink and stamped some fish and seaweed in dark blue, before embossing a jellyfish in both seafoam embossing powder and holographic and using a white pen to make lines of light. I then cut another circle out of acetate, and added some seashell sequins to make a shaker card, using thick foam to put it together. Once that was finished and attached to the base with some sprayed sisal fibres underneath, i added some stamped seaweed to the outside that had been coloured with Lindy's sprays, some seashells that are made of resin, and a sentiment. Finally i added some small art stones here and there, an anchor in the corner, and some blue and green stones and flowers.

I've also spent far too much on craft stuff this week, but that's neither here nor there! Hopefully it will lead to a few more tricks up my sleeve when making things.

Here is the update on the stitch.

So too much spending not enough makes! To quote Mr Wonka, i need to strike that and reverse it.

Until next time,
Ems

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta...

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some cloc...

Carry on my wayward son

So get this, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of supernatural starting, so this week I've decided to make something supernatural themed. I had some 3d resin printed figures of sam, dean, castiel, bobby and crowley that I bought on etsy, and some gumball machines I got from vinted. I don't know why, I've always wanted to alter a gumball machine! I painted everything with black gesso, and used prima art stones to give the machine some texture. I also added some chain links to the top.  I then used silver wax on the machine and figures. I used a cardboard disc covered in cheesecloth so I could glue sam and dean on the inside, and added castiel to the top, and bobby and crowley at the bottom. Finally, I added a lamp on the inside and some skulls where the gumballs usually come out.  I love this so much! And amazingly I got over 1000 likes on fb for it. I'd love to do a pirates one if  could find some decent figures.  I've also been working on the stitch, about 10 days...
