Steampunk

So this week I've been off, but have not really done much in the way of crafting. I did buy a load of stuff though! I have made one thing, which was a shadow box frame. It's slightly different from pictured, as her bloody feet fell off just after I took the picture. I glued them back on, but it is noticeable. Ah well maybe I can say she's like Sally from nightmare before christmas, but its a lesson that resin plaster is fragile! Anyway, I started off by gluing cogs, clocks and grunge board numbers to the base, covering it in Black gesso and spraying with oxide sprays before accentuating the pieces with copper wax. I then painted the lady, cat and trunk black and used copper wax on them.   Here's the update on the stitch.  Just kidding! This is a new one which means.... (Drum roll) It's finished! Taken me a fair few months and a bad back but its done. Already framed and up in my room. Until next time Ems

Through the looking glass

I've made a couple of altered tobacco tins this week, using stamperia alice in wonderland moulds, wax and paints, as well as some prima pipes and taps and some alice stamps.  This is my favourite of the two. I love the patina exterior, and the pipes and upside down tap. First time I've used the copper wax but won't be the last! This wasn't quite how I envisaged it, but I still love it, particularly the side where alice is looking at the stars. The cups and time for tea moulds are stamperia but not alice.  Finally, here is the update on the stitch.   I'd hoped to get it done by the end of May, but I'm doubting that now. Until next time  Ems

Never ending story

In the spirit of trying new (to me) techniques and using up my stash, here is this weeks craft piece.  This is a never ending card. I saw one on Facebook, and straight away googled instructions for it. It looks complicated, but its surprisingly simple. I used graphic 45 papers for the decoration, leaving some spaces with white paper so people can write sentiments on them.  Also update on the stitch. Page 7 finished! Just one to go now.  Until next time Ems

In the stars

This week I've made a couple of bracelets, one using the resin pieces from the last post.  One thing that's an advantage of not being brave enough to gift what I make is that I can recycle! The beads on this bracelet were from a necklace that I made ages ago, that I didn't like anymore.  Here's my update on the stitch.  I'm getting there! Hopefully be done before the end of June.  Until next time Ems

Seeing clearly

I haven't completed a piece this week, but I wanted to show my first attempt at using resin and open bezels. I made a few mistakes. I have never been able to do the coloured gedeo resin for some reason so it remained sticky, but luckily I had left enough space for clear resin on top. I also failed to seal properly on others, which meant the resin leaked out. Still, despite these faults, there were some successes. This is the first time I've done layers as well, which I wanted to do to suspend the pieces inside.  My thanks to Lou Bridges for buying me the ingredients for these as a birthday gift.  I've not been able to do much this week cos of my back, but I have finished page 6 of my stitch   Until next time Ems
