Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now.

Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the Craft room something old, something new challenge and That's Crafty! Girl power challenge. The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this:

This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now:

What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section.

I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks from Witching Hour, and the tick tock, time flies and watch face from Mechanical Marvels. Then I found an old watch I had, and added some chipboard butterfly wings. I painted them black, added crackle glaze then inked with silver ink. They look really cool! The stars are grungeboard, painted in black, crackle accented and rubbed with gold ink.

The section with the woman was covered in the Totally Wicked background. I then cut out some hot air balloons from the Pumpkin Power page, cutting four of the medium sized one so that I could glue them together and make the balloon 3d. I cut out the lady and the banner from the Vintage Voyage page, glossy accented the necklace and the goggles on the lady, then added a flower to her hat.

The potions page has the background Witching Hour. I then cut out an announcement from Vintage Voyages, and some bottles from Mechanical Marvels, which I crackle accented. The bottles were old bottles which I added remnant rubs to, then used a bit of alcohol ink and glossy accent to give them a residue of old potion.

The middle bit is from the NeverMore page, which has been inked with distress ink. I added some bats (some cut from papers and glossy accented, some chipboard and black soot stickled) and Mr Seymour Bones from the Frightful Folly page. I then made a wobbly chest of drawers from black card, using dominoes for the legs. I stuck a few roses onto the drawers, and the Seymour bones on the bottom drawer. The top drawer has this little surprise.

See? More bones! Couldn't resist using that pun.

Almost forgot! On the potions page I made a little book from the Nevermore page, crackle accenting the front and adding twine to tie it together, as well as some beads and a key.

This is the inside of the book. The cards work really well as a book.

The new items I used for this were the G45 papers and the black acrylic paint. The old was everything else really! Particularly the bottles, remnant rubs, the twine (one of the first things I ever bought craft wise), the dominoes, the flowers and the distress inks.

Anyway, I hope you like it. I've still got plenty of Steampunk Spells papers so be prepared for a lot of halloween style items this month!

Happy crafting everyone
Emma x

  5. Hello Emma. I know exactly what you mean about Graphic 45 paper crafting goodies. I've been a big fan of theirs for two or three years now and love the sheer quality of everything they do.

I bought the Steampunk Spells collection when it came out just over a year ago and, like you, was hooked from the moment I saw it. Since then I've actually even replaced paper pads and chipboards so that I could continue to craft with them.

Have you seen their latest halloween(y) papers and associated lovelies? Go take a look at: 'An Eerie Tale'. It's really lovely, and designed in such a way that you don't have to just use it for halloween. The colours they've chosen work brilliantly as Steampunk crafting as they do for Autumn and lots of other themes too.

Oh ... and if you want good (old fashioned) childhood memories of holidays I 100% recommend 'By the Sea' - which has a unique colour choice - the blues aren't just blue - they're ... ohhhhh, a total delight - and the seashells (incredible), the lighthouse (wow!). Tags, borders, - aw, I could go on, but I'll leave you to discover them for yourself. Fabulous. Totally.

If you like country style, then the French Country is a delight - (but that might be on the list of 'retireds soon, so you may find some on ebay for a good price).

Love what you created with the Steampunk Spells. I can tell that your confidence has really come on leaps and bounds, which is so lovely to see.

You always were a good crafter, you just had to believe in yourself.
Sending love, as always ~ Cobs. x

    1. Hi Cobs :)
You're right about the Steampunk Spells - I'm probably going to have to buy another pad when I'm done with this one!
I've looked at an Eerie Tale, it's one that's on my list at the moment. I wish I had got into them a couple of years ago though cos they did Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland, which would have been brilliant to work with.
I'm loving your blog still, makes me smile when I see a new post arriving in my inbox :)

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems
