Hello and welcome to the mess that is me...

It is always difficult to come up with the first post of a blog. You are looking for something that will capture the attention of people, either random strangers or friends and family. You hope to entertain, and perhaps, if you are lucky, to inspire, those who stumble across your words.

However, i am well aware of my short comings, both as a writer and as a person, so i am going to ramble on for my first post. Later on i will hone my skills, at least i hope!

I have set up this blog for a couple of reasons. The first is simple. I have relatively severe depression and anxiety and, as the title of my blog suggests, i am an exceedingly introverted person. So much so that i have, at thirty, pretty much no social life whatsoever. I am not going to hide that it has significantly affected my life. I did go to university, many moons ago, but i have not yet been able to find where i belong in this world.  I have extreme difficulty talking to people, without over-analysing what they, and what i, say. I have a few friends, who i love dearly, but i find it hard to make new ones. I am hoping that this blog opens up my world, at least electronically, and that people in a similar isolated position can identify and perhaps find solace that there are others out there.

Obviously the second part of the title indicates that i craft. I have only been crafting for about ten months, but i have found that it has reduced my anxiety by a huge amount. Not only that, it has made me have confidence in myself for the first time in a long time. My main crafts are cross stitch and papercraft, but i will try my hand at anything. At the moment i am working on two cross stitch projects, a vintage sampler from Bothy threads and a photo stitch from photostitch.co.uk. I will post the WIPs once a week.

I also write, and am currently 72,000 into my first novel (can it be a first novel if there is a chance it will never be published?) and 10,000 into a second.

Anyway, that is an introduction to the mess that is me, all of the directionless, neurotic, hopefully slightly creative sides of the whole. I promise that i will try my best to make the rest of the posts interesting, and i hope that some of you stick with me. I truly appreciate those who do.

For now, adieu, until we meet again
Emma

  1. What a really lovely blog. I know it's a 'new' blog, but I already love it. You have a way of writing which carries the reader along and makes them feel like they're connecting with the person behind the words. Love it. I'm so glad that I found your link on the MSE forum. Keep up the great work. I'll be reading regularly! ~ T.C.

    1. Thank you TC, you don't know how much that means to me, especially as an aspiring writer! I've subscribed to your blog too - love the angel wings. I may have to pick your brains about polymer clay

  2. You can pick my brains anytime you wish, ems. (Although mind ... it's a bit creaky in there. lol). Any questions please just ask away. I'm not one of those folks who won't share 'how to', I'm more than happy to help or give information if I can. ~ T.C. x

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro
