February review

Well the second month of the year is almost over (I am aware that there is an extra day tomorrow but I felt like updating tonight.) and it's time for my resolution update.

1. No fizzy drinks for a year - piece of piss. I don't think I will drink fizzy ever again.
2. Exercise every day - still doing weights every morning, and either cycling or walking every day on top. Waiting for the weather to improve so I can take my bicycle out
3. Saving £250 a month - second lot put into ISA. I have decided that my monthly treats can come out of this. As an example I took the money for Feb's treat (a double bicycle bag for both me and mum) out of here so that I could get some decent ones
4. First draft of one book - writing 500 words a day every day is helping tremendously.
5. Finish Beauty and the Beast stitch - page 2 is finished! Which means as I have set aside three months for each page (plus three for the additions at the end) I am one month ahead and I can work on my Middle Earth stitch for the whole of March.


 
I've also made a couple of cards, both for mum. First is the mother's day card.
 

I started off by getting some resist motif card and inking it with evergreen bough and peeled paint I then took some foil card, die cut it with a cage die and embossed it. There's a tip here - emboss before you die cut it. A little bit broke, hence the flowers there. The bird and sentiment (free from a mag) were cut from Madame Payraud paper, then inked with pink distress inks (spun sugar and Victorian velvet). I added some lace trim, flowers and a brad, then on the other side added some gems in a swirl, and sepals which I dipped in alcohol ink. I also used a Tim Holtz brad with an M in, and some of the offcuts of the flowers in between the sepals. Finally I added gems at the corners of the sentiment.
 
Now onto the birthday card.
 

 
Sorry about the lighting here - bloody winter. I can barely see this as I type! Anyway, I started with plain card, inked it with Antique Linen, then used the Tim Holtz lace stencil with one of the brown inks (sorry can't remember which one.) I also edged the card with inks to give it more of a vintage look. I embossed the sentiment (another freebie from a mag) and inked it with the antique linen and brown inks. I found a black vinyl sticker from my stash, some ribbon which I tied around the bottom, and some purple patterned paper which I die cut some butterflies from.

    Wow that is one big stitch! Well done on finishing your page a month early. I love the cards you made for your Mum. I've never tried papercraft, I spend too much time stitching without any other hobbies!

      You should see the Middle Earth one - 104 pages! What have I let myself in for?

      I'm a bit eclectic when it comes to crafting - cross stitching is my favourite but I like doing multi medium pieces and papercraft too, plus I write. The irony is I wasn't creative at all until a few years ago, I was in a depressive state and one day I walked into Smiths and picked up a cross stitch magazine. It took me two months to stitch the little bird that was the freebie - amazing to see how far I've come.

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. Carry on my wayward son

So get this, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of supernatural starting, so this week I've decided to make something supernatural themed. I had some 3d resin printed figures of sam, dean, castiel, bobby and crowley that I bought on etsy, and some gumball machines I got from vinted. I don't know why, I've always wanted to alter a gumball machine! I painted everything with black gesso, and used prima art stones to give the machine some texture. I also added some chain links to the top.  I then used silver wax on the machine and figures. I used a cardboard disc covered in cheesecloth so I could glue sam and dean on the inside, and added castiel to the top, and bobby and crowley at the bottom. Finally, I added a lamp on the inside and some skulls where the gumballs usually come out.  I love this so much! And amazingly I got over 1000 likes on fb for it. I'd love to do a pirates one if  could find some decent figures.  I've also been working on the stitch, about 10 days...
