Odds and sods

First things first, this weeks decluttered items. I decided to go with the same theme for all items this week. Books. It's hard for me as I love keeping as many books as possible but things have to go or I'm going to end up like Mr Trebus.

Stephen King's Finders Keepers. I liked this book but it's not my favourite of his, so not one I felt the need to hang onto. Went to a charity shop.

The Faraway Tree collection. A remnant from my childhood, this went to someone I know who has grandchildren. I hope it gives them the same pleasure it gave me as a child

A Mind of it's own. Popular science book, but not one of my favourites. Charity shop.

The Loney. Bought this a few months ago in a supermarket with a tip. I liked it, but I don't think I would read it again. Charity shop.

We are all completely beside ourselves. Fascinating idea for a story. I think I gave this to the same charity shop I bought it from so it's a double donation.

Bad Medicine. I wanted to like this but it glosses over too many different subjects when I wanted it to be more in depth. Charity shop

Finally the Sherlock chronicles. I have to stop buying film/tv tie ins! I got this in Plymouth in March. Charity shop.

I have been doing craft stuff again (including making a card which I will share next week.) What I have done this week is make a jewellery set for a little girl for Christmas. I used some of the things I got from the last Beadhaul box (the ice cream charms I didn't like for myself)

The earrings were made with hook earrings, the ice cream charms, and some blue and yellow beads.

The necklace started with a piece of cord that I threaded word blocks spelling the girls name onto, and the ice cream charm was attached using a jump ring. It's important to use the right size jump ring so the charm doesn't move much from it's position.

I didn't want it to be a whole cord, and also wanted to repeat the yellow and blue beads on the earrings, so I used a jump ring to clamp each end of the cord, using other jump rings to attach the beads, which had been threaded through an eye pin. Finally I used a chain fragment and a necklace clasp to finish.

Here is the finished article. I think it work well for a young girl - not too childish but not too grown up either.

Happy crafting

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta...

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some cloc...

Drawering a crowd

So, this week I've done something a little different. This is before... This is after.... Obviously there's two of them! These are my mums bedside drawers, which are over 30 years old and now have a new lease of life.  I've also been working on the stitch. 31% down now. Until next time Ems
