A stitchy update

Just thought I'd do a quick one today, showcasing my latest cross stitch update. I've been doing a little bit of stitching every day this week, and here is the result


I usually work one colour at a time, as those of you who follow my blog will know. For this page I had to find the right colour to start with, so that I could plot out the points easily. From there it makes it a lot easier to work on subsequent colours. I think I'm the only person that does it like this!

I've also been working on birthday presents again, finishing this one. It started off as an altoid tin.


I started off by finding objects, some chipboard and resin, and a metal anchor. I glued them onto the lid and then painted it blue, left it to dry and sealed with acrylic spray.


I then dry brushed different metallic distress paints onto the tin, and sealed it again.


Here is a look at the back of the tin. I purposely left it a bit bluer.


Here is the inside of the tin. I coated it with glue to seal it but left that as the decoration as I want it to be a usable tin. 


Here is the inside of the lid. I found a nice quote about sisters, stamped it using alphabet stamps and inked each word. 


You can just see a plastic case, put there to protect the three dimensional elements on the lid.


These are the three dimensional elements I was talking about; flowers and a butterfly (or two) that I fussy cut.

As I said, short update today. I have spent £15.06 this morning, getting food for work and cat food. It was a bit more expensive than usual as I had to go to the Co-op not Asda. (£4.19 for six tins of cat food vs less than £3 which I usually spend)

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. Carry on my wayward son

So get this, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of supernatural starting, so this week I've decided to make something supernatural themed. I had some 3d resin printed figures of sam, dean, castiel, bobby and crowley that I bought on etsy, and some gumball machines I got from vinted. I don't know why, I've always wanted to alter a gumball machine! I painted everything with black gesso, and used prima art stones to give the machine some texture. I also added some chain links to the top.  I then used silver wax on the machine and figures. I used a cardboard disc covered in cheesecloth so I could glue sam and dean on the inside, and added castiel to the top, and bobby and crowley at the bottom. Finally, I added a lamp on the inside and some skulls where the gumballs usually come out.  I love this so much! And amazingly I got over 1000 likes on fb for it. I'd love to do a pirates one if  could find some decent figures.  I've also been working on the stitch, about 10 days...
