Substitute own title here...

I managed to finish the mixed media project today. It started off as a box that held dominoes. I got it from Poundland, obviously for the dominoes not for the box, but thought I'd do something with it anyway. I started off by painting it black, then adding some G45 papers that I'd distress inked. I used a stencil to add a little more dimension to the stains, before covering in multi matte medium.

After doing this I was at a bit of a loss, for some reason. I ended up going for a more masculine approach, rather than covering it in butterflies and flowers. I was tempted to do burlap flowers but the burlap kind of fell apart after I'd cut it.

There are some beads on the top (including a couple of hidden Mickeys). The main finding in the middle actually started off a pastel blue with white bells. I painted it with black gesso, then added some tarnished brass distress paint to emphasise the decorations, as well as some green lustre spray.

Here you can see the lustre spray and the tarnished brass effect a little better.

And in the bottom left corner, a hidden Mickey!

I decided to add a quote on one side, from my favourite book series.

You can see the effect of the stencil here. The bird was also a different colour, but changed in the same way as the finding on the top. The plaque and crown are both grungeboard. The plaque was painted black, then a little tarnished brass was added. The crown was painted gold, then black, wiping off the excess. The point of the crown is a later line "the crownless again shall be king"

I kept the inside simple, just putting the reverse of the paper onto the bottom.

Spending wise I went to Wetherspoons the other day with mum, getting a gourmet burger and hot dog for £11.98. Then I got food for the week at a cost of £7.80 It's payday next Friday, so I'm hoping I won't need to spend any money before then.

Finally, onto the tasks

1. Starry night stitch (DONE)
2. Project book (DONE)

  1. What a truly lovely make! WTG Ems.

(Well done on the tasks too. I think I might end up adopting this idea of 'tasks to complete' - it might just spur me on and get my fingers busy!)

Hope everything is your world is fine and groovy!
    Sending love ~ Cobs. x

    1. I find the tasks keep me focussed, evidenced by the fact I have now finished birthday presents for next year! lol

I find the best method is to break things down into little bits. The books are easy obviously but things like the writing I broke down to 500 words a day to make it more manageable. I've now got five stitches in my stash (not to mention a t shirt for me) so that's set me up cross stitch wise, and a list of things I want to make.

      Hope you're ok Cobs

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro
