Overplanning

I don't know whether anybody else has the same problem as I do, but I have a tendency to overplan. This can extend from holidays being planned in the smallest detail (actually a benefit for somewhere like Disney, where it pays to have military-like precision) to planning christmas and birthday presents waayy in advance. I haven't even finished this years birthday and christmas presents yet, and I'm already planning the next ones. The disadvantage of this is that projects I've planned to do for myself get put on the wayside. I've got next week off so I'm hoping to work on a lot of projects throughout the week, especially as I've no spending money. Gotta keep myself busy somehow!

I've completed a little cross stitch this week, and started another one. With the one that's in progress, I've decided to do something a little different. Rather than take a picture when the page is complete, I'm going to take one at the end of each stitching session, to give an idea of how quickly the progress is made.

Not sure why this is sideways but ho hum! It was pretty hard to do actually. Looks simple but it's deceptive, as it's 28 count. First time I've tried that and I found it impossible to do the half stitches so improvised.

Here are the first three sessions from Dimensions Holiday Village stitch. Looks very disorganised at the moment but it's getting there slowly.

I've also been working on the christmas presents, completing the covers for the domino books, which are currently drying. I actually found the black dominoes easier to work with than the white, as for some reason I have trouble with the alcohol ink. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but it never seems to work out for me the way it does for others.

With these dominoes I used a combination of papers, alcohol inks, stamps, stazon ink, beads, remnant rubs, promarkers and various findings.

I used either glossy or crackle accents on them to coat, hence the need for them to dry.

This morning I've been making tags for the christmas baubles. I used Tim Holtz, fragments, stamped them on the front with stazon ink with an initial, then stamped the back with versamark ink and brushed with yellow mica powder. Finally I used stickles to coat the back. Obviously they aren't dry yet, but once they are I will put another photo up to show you how they worked out.

Spending wise I have spent £39.92 on eight pieces of water soluble canvas, £26.50 on six t shirts and a vest top, £10 on electric, £6.16 on a pack of baccy for mum, £2 on two pizzas and £1.75 on four magnums. I bought a bottle of glossy accents for £5.95 from countryview crafts and - mini breakthrough - nothing else from there! Food for next week was £9.99, and todays rent was £406.16. Unfortunately I was a bit short sighted buying the supplies for next years presents so I don't really have any spare money for myself, but that's my fault.

Finally the tasks

1. Starry night cross stitch (DONE)
2. Project book (DONE)
3. Book plans (little progress)
4. Read and review 100 books (80/100)
5.Make 14 christmas presents (some progress)
6. Make 11 birthday presents (no progress)
7. Make calendar, box and tags (DONE)
8. Hit minimum savings target (48%)
9. Kili stitch (DONE)
10. Write 50,000 words (22298/50000)

Happy crafting everyone, and let's hope this week goes quickly!

  1. Love, love LOVE the domino's, Ems! Can't wait to see what you do with them.

Oh ... yes .... I'm an over-planner and an over-thinker. It keeps me standing still for waaaay too long some days. I seem to almost talk myself out of some things simply because I've made everything seem to be so complicated with all the 'over' planning and thinking.

We need to form a self help group. LOL ~ Cobs. x

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro
